The exhibition WHERE WE ARE is an extension and continuation of the permanent lighting installation HIGH LIGHTS which was unveiled at the University of Agder, January 2019.
WHERE WE ARE is a wonder about the theme of closeness and distance between us humans. It explores the physical and mental distance - where we place ourselves in relation to each other and how it affects us as an individual. It is about the conscious and the unconscious placement we make.
The exhibition has a wide range of different expressions, such as sculpture, photography, wall panels, sound and light installations and acrylic on canvas, where all the works circulate around the unique "dance" that continuously takes place in any relationship. This movement, and the space between, also affects the other meaning of the title: WHERE WE ARE. Where and who do you place around you to be as close to the self as possible: who you really are. Why do we choose to move further away?
WHERE WE ARE want to create an awareness of our own movements and where we are in this "dance". During the time the project was developed, the pandemic Covid-19 broke out. Suddenly, closeness and distance became an important part of our consciousness and our everyday life. It became very concrete. It changes an entire society and it affects our minds and our thoughts. But how?
