The Peter Pan Complex
Jim Darbu and Torgrim Torve
Exhibition period
Gallery TM51 25.01.2013 – 10.02.2013
TM51 presents the first joint exhibition with Jim Darbu and Torgrim Torve. Their artistry range from paintings to large ceramic sculptures, inspired by cartoons on the borderline of the abnormal and the grotesque. The title “The Peter Pan Complex” reflects on being a child trapped in a grown man’s body and the refusal to grow up.
Jim Darbu (b. 1981) from Oslo, Norway has an MA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, with a specialization in ceramics. Darbu graduated in 2009 and has since then been working as an independent artist, with a long record of exhibitions. His works show a playful, but reflective approach towards life, with a strong fascination for cartoon characters. This is being reflected in his colorful and surrealistic ceramic sculptures.
Torgrim Torve (b. 1978) from Hamar, Norway has an MA in visual art from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Since he graduated in 2009, he has participated in several group exhibitions and publications. As well as being a painter and sculptor, Torve is the lead vocalist in the metal-band Dunderbeist. In this exhibition he will show paintings, which are based on his interest in how text can be interpreted into visual language.
Both artists are very straightforward in their approach to art. They are not bound by contextual allusions, and both operate on the borderline between fiction and reality. The exhibition will present ceramic sculptures by Jim Darbu, and paintings by Torgrim Torve. The two artists compliment each other, in style, color palette, taste and humor.
